Pay-What-You-Feel Acupuncture for people in social justice movements and their communities.

We acknowledge and condemn both historical and ongoing oppression via imperialism, colonialism, capitalism, neo-liberalism, racism, classism, gentrification, ableism and cis-heteropatriarchy.

We understand that living within these systems puts our mental health under significant strain and that at the same time, both our present moments and futures rely on our ability to rest, dream, imagine and co-create in community.

Here, we support general wellbeing, organ detoxification, deeper sleep and mental health using the NADA protocol, a five point auricular (ear) acupuncture technique developed by a coalition of community activists in the South Bronx in the 1970’s whose communities were battling an heroin epidemic. Community leaders (The Black Panthers, The Young Lords and Mutulu Shakur, from the New Republic of Afrika) formed “The People’s Program” at the Lincoln Hospital, combining detoxification from heroin and methodone via acupuncture with political education.

Since it’s inception, the NADA protocol has been used around the world to support people in a range of crises including war zones, cancer wards, cartel hotspots and homeless shelters. Here in the UK there is a drop in clinic in Lambeth and there was a clinic set up after the Grenfell Fire tragedy in 2017. There are approximately 1,700 NADA practitioners working in over 500 treatment settings throughout Britain today

In 1973, Dr. Mutulu Shakur, along with fellow Black Panthers and the Young Lords, combined community health with radical politics to create the first acupuncture detoxification program in America. DOPE IS DEATH explores how this form of radical harm reduction was a revolutionary act toward the government programs that transfixed the lives of black and brown communities throughout the South Bronx.

Our Vision

Donations cover equipment and associated expenses for people delivering the acupuncture.

The plan is to continue fundraising and to create a fund for people to use to train in the NADA protocol themselves. If you are interested in this or have any questions or comments, please email dreaming.movements@gmail.com.

This is a protocol developed by community activists and our mission is for it to be accessible to all, especially to people whose work is aligned with social justice values.

Thank you in advance for your donation!

Our instagram link in bio also has information about community healing offerings run by other practitioners as well as some organisations with shared values that we recommend donating to and/or following their work.

We believe support for mental health wellbeing should be accessible to everyone and hope that we can grow in the future to develop more access & skills sharing to more people at low/ no cost.
